Cliffs of Freedom (2019)

Cliffs of Freedom is an independent period movie about the Greek War of Independence against the Ottoman Empire in the early 19th century, first released in New York and Los Angeles on 1 March 2019.

Subsequently, it was brought to select local cinemas, mainly in the US and Greece, throughout the year but has never been made available to a wider public.

After a year of silence, it finally re-surfaced in mid-March 2021 on the page of the Hellenic Film Society to celebrate 200 years of Greek independence . It was originally meant to be available for free public streaming for 10 days there.

However, that policy was changed after a couple of days to the policy to block it after a maximum number of views had been reached. The Facebook page of the movie announced that it will become available again on a streaming service in the future.

Ivan’s character Ghazi Khalif is the military advisor to the local Ottoman governor Mustapha Bey (Carlo Rota) and, in fact, the main strategist involved.

However, the Ottoman side is developed mainly around the male lead Tariq (Jan Uddin), his fatherly Greek advisor Thanasi (Christopher Plummer) and the baddie Sunal Demir (Raza Jaffrey).

Therefore, material of Ivan is not very substantial.
